The Joint Commission released its Responsible Use of AI in Healthcare certification on June 1st, 2026. It is voluntary, it certifies a hospital or health system, and it does not require Joint Commission accreditation to apply. Its standards sit in 5 domains. The fifth is transparency, education and training, and it asks you to show that your people were educated on the AI tools you run.

A reviewer will ask you to show 9 things. Your leaders know your AI policy. Who may use which tool is written down. Your leaders were trained on each tool you run. Everyone shares a vocabulary. Your people can reach each tool's information. Training matches each tool's risk and stays current. Your people know how to report a problem with an AI tool. Patients are told when AI touches their care. And you can hand over the roster, the content, the scores, the attestations and the refresh dates. Four lessons, 1 chapter and 1 exported record cover all 9.
